Thermodynamic transformation

The thermodynamic transformation is a modification of the state of a thermodynamic Système which passes from a state of initial balance to a state of final balance.

According to its characteristics, the transformation will be described as:

  • opened Transformation, if the final state is different from the initial state;
  • cyclic Transformation, if there is a return at the initial state (it is the case, for example, of a spark-ignition engine under operation; engine 4 times: admission, compression, explosion-relaxation, exhaust… then the cycle starts again…) ;
  • Reversible Transformation or Irreversible;
  • Isobar Transformation (Pressure = constant), Isochoric ( Volume = constant), Isothermal (Temperature = constant), Adiabatic (Q = 0).
