Therese Casgrain
Marie Therese Forget Casgrain , D.C., OBE, LL.D (July 10th 1896 - November 2nd 1981) was a Féministe, reforming, a political woman and a Canadian sénatrice , which especially acted with the Quebec.
Policy
It is known to have directed the movement for the Vote of the women in Quebec, before the First World War. Its implication starts in 1921 and the victory is reached in 1940.In 1942, it is presented as a “Independent-liberal” candidate in the district of Charlevoix-Saguenay.
After the Second world war, it joint the party of the Federation of the co-operative Commonwealth (CCF), ancestor of the New democratic party of Canada (NPD). It becomes the first woman with being a chief of a Political party in Quebec in 1951, and it preserves this station until in 1957. It is a political adversary of Maurice Duplessis.
In the Years 1960, it directs the Québécois branch of the NPD. In 1966, it founds the Fédération of the women of Quebec.
In 1970, the Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau names it with the Sénat of Canada. In 1974, it receives the Ordre of Canada.
It is buried with the Cimetière Our-Lady-of-Snows with Montreal.
