Theodore Thomas

Theodore Thomas is a German Leader , born with Hanover the October 11th 1835 and died with Chicago the January 4th 1905.

Biography

It receives from his father violonist a musical education, so that as of the six years age it occurs with the violin in concerts. In 1845, its family emigrates with the the United States before undergoing financial problems.

Since 1854, it directs the Philharmonic orchestra of New York, while taking part in the violin with several concerts with other musicians in the country.

First chief of reputation in the United States, it made discover the music of Beethoven, Mozart and Wagner with the American public.

From 1861, it constitutes its clean Orchestre which occurs with the Irving Hall. Especially, it creates the Symphony orchestra of Chicago from which it ensures the direction of 1891 to 1905.
