Theodore Chassériau
Theodore Chassériau (September 20th 1819 - October 8th 1856) is a painter French born with (Saint Bores of Samana) Saint-Domingue died in Paris.
He studies with the workshop of Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, but will be later strongly influenced by Paul Delaroche and Delacroix.
Very early, about the middle of the years 1830, Théophile Gautier is interested in art of Chassériau. It lends " then to him; lives imaginaires" or speaks about " grace étrange" to try to give an account of the particular universe of the painter. Indeed, Chassériau does not cease being played of atmospheres disturbs, strange, ambiguity and mysterious.
Theodore Chassériau was at his time famous for his historical portraits and his scenes, of which its Tepidarium with Pompéi (1853) exposed to the Musée of Orsay.
Brother: Frederic-Victor-Charles Chassériau, administrator in Saint-Domingue .
First cousin: Baron Charles Frederic Chassériau, architect as a chief of the town of Algiers .
