Thenia is the name of a Daïra and sound Chef-lieu, Wilaya of Boumerdes, in Kabylie in the north of the Algérie.
The city was called in the beginning Tizi N At Aycha (in Arabic Theniet Beni Baited ), which means in Berbère “collar of people of Aycha” (the prefix At indicates a tribe). At the time of the French Colonization, Patrice of Mac-Mahon, governor of Algeria, named the Ménerville city, of the patronym of Charles-Louis Pinson of Ménerville. It receipt then the Arab name Thenia with the independence of Algeria.
berbérophones of this area speak a dialect closer to that about the Petite Kabylie than that of the Grande Kabylie.
Thénia is the place chief of the Daïra. It is made up of 3 communes:
Beni Amrane (Berbère Has Amrane ): account approximately 23 miles inhabitants. It is a pole for all its villages especially saturdays the day of the Marché (" Souk "). The commune is bordered by a river flowing of the Oued Yesser. It is known also for its Dam of water which supplies Keddara, of will daïra of Boudouaou ( Budwaw ).
Belong to this commune, the villages of Has khelifa, Yazliyen, Thasouikth, Ighzer Ivawen, Thoulmout, Touzaline, Boukerray, Thalmat, Bourjouane, Idhebaghen (the only arabized village), Has If Rabah, iheddadhen.
Ammal: count a few thousands of inhabitants. Belong to this communes, the villages of Thizza, Zenina, Bouaïdel, Izamam, Has El Hadj Ali, Bouchiouane, Has Abd El-Hadi and Has If Amar.
Souk El-Had: populated commune of approximately 6 miles inhabitants. Commune with agricultural vocation (fruit and vegetables) .situé with 50km of Algiers our capital, and has 18km of the place chief of wilaya.
The commune of Thenia counts the following villages: With dimensions one of the south of the valley: Baloul, Gueddara, Merchicha. In the north of the valley, Blessed-Arab, Boukhanfar, Ouled-Ali, Ouled-Bouhmed other with dimensions of the slope limiting is the commune of Zemmouri and finally Draa-Ben-Hadhoum which is located at the foot of Djebel Bouarous of with dimensions of the sea giving on the paradisiac beach of Sghirat to the borders of the commune of the Fig tree.
