Themistoklis Sophoulis
Themistoklis Sophoulis (or Themistoklis Sofoulis , in Greek modern: Θεμιστοκλής Σοφούλης born in was a Greek politician 1860 and deceased in 1949. It was Prime Minister of Greece to three recoveries: from July in November 1924, from November in April 1946 and November 1947 in June 1949.
Biography
Sophoulis was born in 1860 in Vathy on the island from Samos. He studies the Philosophie with the National university capodistrienne of Athens, then in Germany, where he specializes in archeology.In 1900, it gives up the archaeological excavations and becomes appointed of Samos. At the time of the First Balkan war, it releases its native island, Samos, in 1912. In 1915, it becomes appointed with the Hellenic Parlement.
Partisan of Eleftherios Venizelos, it takes part in the coup d'etat missed of March 1st, 1935. This coup d'etat precipitates the dictatorship of Ioánnis Metaxás. Condemned to several years of prison, Sophoulis is quickly grâcié.
After the monarchical restoration of 1935 and the return of the king Georges II, the elections of January 26th, 1936, with proportional prevent the constitution of a governmental majority (126 liberals, 72 popular, 15 communist and elected officials resulting from eleven other small parts). Thémistoklis Sophoulis is elected President of the Hellenic Parlement in March 1936 with the contribution of the communist voices with the voices of the liberal party (157 against 137). It cannot whereas to note the political dead end and the danger to the democracy, soldiers being agitated:
Our hatreds, the mean actions and the passion which lead our discord to the ultimate limits: here is the only danger which threatens the nation of a catastrophe supplements
.
It is during its third constituent of Prime Minister that the Greek Civil war starts to end; Sophoulis playing a big role in the victory of the Greek army. However, he does not see the end of the conflict, because he dies the June 24th 1949.
