History

Richelieu made raise in 1637 a theater on the wing is building of the Palais Royal in order to break the monopoly of the Hôtel of Burgundy.

The inauguration took place in 1641.

The troop of Molière and the Italians divided the scene between 1662 and 1673.

With died of his/her former collaborator, Lully recovered the places to found there the royal Académie of Music. It returned the troop of Molière which settled in the Hôtel of Guénégaud. When Lully took again the theater, it had to carry out many repairs to install a Machinerie able to support the imposing decorations of its futures operas. The machinery of Carlo Vigarani replaced that which Giacomo Torelli had installed in 1645.
