Theater of art of Moscow

The theater of art of Moscow (in Russian: МосковскийХудожественныйАкадемическийТеатр ), called MKhAT (its initial), is a Muscovite company of theater , founded in 1897 by Constantin Stanislavski and Vladimir Nemirovitch-Dantchenko, and located on the Avenue Tverskaïa, to a few hundred meters only of the Red Place. It was conceived like a place of appointment of the theater naturalist, contrasting with the theatrical form most widespread then in Russia, which was the melodrama.

The theater gained quickly into famous while putting in scene four of the most famous parts of Anton Tchekhov, whose first was the Gull . For the Soviet period , the theater of art of Moscow accepted a great support of the State, in exchange of what of many socialist parts were produced there.

The theater of art of Moscow always exists and its Emblème is a Mouette. It is under the direction of Oleg Tabakov since 2000.
