The Théâtre of Work is founded by Aurélien Lugné-Poe in 1893 with Paris 55, rue de Clichy to accommodate literary and pictorial symbolism (Maurice Denis, Bonnard and Vuillard in particular). Its repertory grants a broad place to the Scandinavian authors, at the sides of young French writers as Henry Bataille, Henri de Régnier or Alfred Jarry.
