Synopsis
During the New Deal, Chuck Glover (Montgomery Clift) is sent in the south of the United States on behalf of the Tennessee Valley Authority, organization of State in charge of the construction of a stopping on the river, with an aim of damming up its risings devastators. Chuck has the role of obtaining inhabitants whom they agree to leave the zones intended to be flooded by work. On its arrival, there remains only one island whose inhabitants refuse expropriation. True mistress of the places, Ella Garth, (OJ Van Fleet) by her exaggerated obstinacy not to leave her grounds, quickly will prove to be an adversary of weight.
