The war is finished
the war is finished (1966) is a French film of Alain Resnais left in 1966.
Synopsis
In 1965, Diego, a militant of the Spanish Communist party lives in exile with Paris. Regularly, it passes the border under assumed identities thus ensuring the connection between the exiled militants and those remained in Spain.
Of return of a difficult mission, Diego begins to doubt the direction of its action and the means implemented. Its confrontation with the young militants of left, who will become the actors of May 1968 is premonitory evolution of the forms of fight.
Comment
This film is perhaps linear of Resnais, under the influence of its first collaboration with Jorge Semprun. Alain Resnais declared “ If one had wanted to make a film on Spain, it would have been better to make documentary or to launch a press campaign. I want to say that if the true goal were there, to take refuge behind a fiction would be a cowardice. What does not mean that the fiction does not have a role to play. When the fury is seen that this film caused near the ministry for the Spanish interior (which required that the film be withdrawn from the competition of the Cannes festival 1966), I acknowledge that I am surprised. They should normally have let it pass. ”
