The sibille

the sibille is a luxurious boat going back to 1899 which makes shipwreck in the night of the May 15th 1903 with 360 people.

The Lifeboats:

  • 8 boats being able to comprise on the whole 50 people
  • 2 boats of a capacity of 30 people
  • 460 people could be saved

The Shipwreck

May 15th, 1903, the sea is very bad, of very large waves knock the ship and threaten to lay down it. Suddenly a package which retains iron bars breaks and breaks the hull. In 10 minutes the rooms of the sailors and the holds are completely flooded. A boat of 50 people is put at the sea with 32 people then is made absorb. Another boat of 50 people starts to go down; a large wave slices the cords; the boat falls, is reversed and another wave absorbs it. The two boats of 30 people are launched; only these boats will survive the shipwreck. The boat runs about midnight
