the life is a novel is a French film carried out by Alain Resnais, left the April 20th 1983.

Synopsis

In 1919, in its castle, the count Forbek proposes with his guests an experiment which must lead them to a state of permanent happiness. The price to be paid is enfermement total, the lapse of memory of passed and a rehabilitation of the directions, by selecting all that is harmonious. But love-passion incarnated by Fanny Ardant explodes this model.

In 1982, the same castle became an experimental school. A conference of researchers meets there to specify the methods and means of an education of imagination.

At the same time, three children invent a moyenâgeux tale, in which a valiant prince triumphs over a tyrant for the happiness of his people.

Comment

This film is presented in the form of three imbricated accounts, in the line of the multiple films of Resnais which approach in an ironic and ludic way major topics, as the research of happiness and love, the education of the children and the respect of their imagination.

The scenario writer Jean Gruault summarizes film thus: “The dream of Forbek, it is the noble account, hugolien; the conference, it is the representation of the daily newspaper; and legendary times, it is fairyhood. ”

In addition, this film comprises choruses and parts sung, tender and ironic, which create a shift. Little liked the public of the time, this form however announces One knows the song which him, will be largely appreciated.
