the international Idiot is a Journal French lampoonist founded in 1969 and directed by Jean-Edern Hallier, and sponsored at its beginnings by Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir. Newspaper polemizes above all, being declared independent of any ideology, it will disappear in 1994, following many legal judgments.

From July in October 1989, the international Idiot and his director are condemned to pour 250.000 F with Jack Lang and his wife for “slandering and insults public”, then 100.000 F with Christian Bourgois, the editor of Salman Rushdie, for “abusive matter and invasion of privacy”, 300.000 F with Georges Kiejman for “insults, slandering and invasion of privacy”, and finally 400.000 F with Bernard Tapie for “attacks of an exceptional gravity that neither humor nor the principles governing freedom of the press could justify”, according to the terms of the magistrates' court of Paris.

In July 1991, Jean-Edern Hallier is condemned to fifty thousand francs of fine and 80.000 francs of damages to several associations antiracists, for “provocation with the racial hate”, by the 17th room of the magistrates' court of Paris, following the “qualifiers outrageants or contemptible endeavouring to indicate Jewish as the dregs of humanity” in a leading article of the international Idiot published during the war of the Gulf. In September of the same year, the writer and his newspaper are condemned to pay 800.000 F of damages to Bernard Tapie to have written, in the international Idiot , of defamatory remarks the “, abusive, and attentatoires with his private life”.

Of 1969 with 1972, the newspaper is located in mobility gauchist. Then, after a fallen through attempt at rebirth in 1984, it was started again in 1989. Didier Daenincks denounced the Idiot like a laboratory national-Communist.
