The infantile Disease of Communism (“gauchism”)
the infantile Disease of Communism (“gauchism”) is a book of Vladimir Illitch Oulianov, known as Lénine, completed on May 12th 1920 and initially carrying the following subtitle: “Popular Test of talk on the Marxist strategy and tactics ” (subtitle removed in the majority of the editions).
Contents
Sometimes in this test, Lénine criticizes very hard the strategy followed by part of the Communists, members of the Third International, in particular the Dutchmen, the Germans and the Italians. Their line of abstention to the elections, in parliamentary mode of democracy, seems to him to raise of purest puerility: for the safeguard of the purity and virginity of the principles, it would thus be necessary to be deprived of these platforms whereas the vast majority of the hard-working population still believes in it.Although one can obviously call into question the veracity of the events and the cogency of the judgments presented, Lénine gives its logic of the sequence of the revolutionary events and in particular the large features of its strategic vision. It expresses its vision of the political struggle for a takeover.
The book today
One of the elements more striking work resides in the use by Lénine of what is still today the prototype of the insults between Socialists or Communists. Indeed, Lénine has of cease to denounce as well the “Gauchistes” only the “Social-traitors”. The use of the term “gauchist” became rather current, without its definition being clear and, irony of the History, the Leninists themselves are often described as this way.
