Synopsis
In 1947, three American intellectual rich person, Port and Kit Moresby and their friend George Tuner, unload in Tangier with the intention to cross the Sahara. Port is a disillusioned type-setter. Kit dramatic author, is more optimistic but also more fragile. Their couple passes through a painful crisis. They think that the adventure represented by the Sahara can bring the oxygen to them which they miss.
As for Tuner, it is a tempting society man, especially concerned about allure pretty the Kit. Port suspects a connection between Kit and Tuner. Their relations are degraded. sullied with mistrust; the trio maintains disorders reports/ratios. The meeting of Mrs. Lyle, English eccentric writing tourist guides, and from his/her son Eric, large unhealthy boy, will hasten their departure towards the south.
Port benefits from their Mercedes while Kit leaves by train with Tunner. During the voyage. it becomes its mistress. The conditions of travel become increasingly painful and of strange faintnesses attack Port. After being itself removed from Tonnet, Port takes along Kit to El Ga' A. But its state worsens and it is transported at the height French where a doctor isolates it: it with the typhoid one.
After having assisted Port in its slow anguish, Kit, corroded by an intense feeling of guilt, share alone in the desert. Belqassim, a young Tuareg chief, takes it along in its caravan, éprend of it and once in its village, the hiding place in the family home. The jealousy of his wives forces Kit to flee again, equipped in Arabic. But the French tickets that it holds betray it. Repatriated with Tangier, Kit, dumb woman, stupefied, is led by Miss Ferry to the hotel where Tunner waits. Thwarting the monitoring of his/her partner, Kit escapes to turn over to the coffee where they liked to go to the beginning of their voyage, it finds there an old pilot man of their history.
