The fantastic Ray
the fantastic Ray is a French collection of novels of Science-fiction, Co-directed by the editions Gallimard and Hachette, appeared in 1951 and disappeared in 1964. Mythical for the amateurs, this collection symbolized a revival of the science fiction in the years 1950 by initiating a new passion of the public in favor of the kind. It made known in France the American great authors of the golden age : Edmond Hamilton, Theodore Sturgeon, A.E. van Vogt, Isaac Asimov, Robert A. Heinlein, Arthur C. Clarke, Clifford D. Simak etc
In the second time, this collection had also the great merit to launch a new generation of French authors: Francis Carsac, Daniel Drode, Philippe Curval, Gerard Klein, Pierre Barbet spaniel, Nathalie and Charles Henneberg.
which resulted from the meeting of a journalist with a fan, Georges H. Gallet. This article encouraged the Hachette editions to entrust to Gallet the direction of a new collection devoted to this new kind whose first title appeared in January 1951, Assassinat of the United States of Will Jenkins (pseudonym of Murray Leinster).
Publications
Because of the double direction of the collection, the classification of the works was sometimes very approximate making thus complex, and thus amusing, the task of the collectors. Thus, it should be noted that:- There were 124 numbers but only 119 pounds published;
- the first 66 titles did not comprise numbers;
- Five titles comprise a double number;
- number 111 does not exist and number 110 was allotted twice (it is the supreme Machine of John W. Campbell which holds legitimately this number as being the first published).
