The diabolic Trap
the diabolic Trap is an album of Cartoon of the series Blake and Mortimer created by Edgar P. Jacobs. Most of the album is in fact due to Liliane and Fred Funcken.
the diabolic Trap was published in 1962 initially in weekly boards in the newspaper of Tintin. It will be the subject of an adaptation out of cartoon film and concerned video.
History: The malicious professor Miloch bequeaths to Mortimer an unexpected heritage, worthy gift of a genius of the evil to a large scientist which was opposed: a machine with to travel in time. Obviously, it is a trap (since it is the title of the album), because how to return in the present whereas one travels in a past or a future which are not places of most pleasant for unfortunate professor Mortimer…
Places
In isn't this album the question “where? ” but “when? ”. Almost the totality of the album proceeds with the castle of the Rock-Guyon at various historical periods as well in the past as in the future.- the Rock-Guyon (department of the Seine-et-Oise (currently the Val-d'Oise), France) to 100 km from Paris and 40 of Rouen a medieval castle overhanging one of the meanders of the Seine.
Critical analysis
The diabolic Trap which asked for two years of work is regarded for certain as a chief of work (the last) of Jacobs.-
One can however wonder how the exceptionally gifted professor and having behind him an long experience, accepts without preliminary reflection nor precautions sufficient to try out a mysterious machine.
-
It is the occasion to show again prehistoric animals and a vegetation which Jacobs excels painting since its very first album (the ray U)
-
During its peregrinations, the hero will be found with the Middle Ages, in full jacquerie, and the peasants are then represented there like rough bloodthirsty men, contrasting with the majesty of the besieged lords of the manor (and of a beautiful young miss) whose Mortimer will take the party.
-
the writing " fonetik" envisaged by EP Jacobs at the beginning of the 21e century seems to be in right track.
-
One learns there that professor Mortimer is well-known and its inventions recognized in the files of the 20th century.
Characters
The number of characters in this album is relatively limited. One will be able to at the end of the lifetime note the absence of Colonel Olrik, who in prison, is then replaced in the Rôle of malicious the by professor Miloch. Its appearance is relatively short but it is the spring of the intrigue. Professor Miloch had appeared in S.O.S. Meteors under the exact name of professor Miloch Georgevitch .
The Captain Francis Blake plays only one very minor part appearing only on the two first and the two last pages of the album.
