The broken Ear
the Ear broken ( the adventures Tintin to defer: The broken Ear , Hergé, 1937) is the sixth album of Cartoon of the adventures of Tintin , published in black and white in the pages of the " Small Vingtième" , supplement of the newspaper the Twentieth Century.
Synopsis
A fetish arumbaya was stolen with the ethnographic Museum: Tintin carries out its survey. By going up the tracks, it finds two men being interested in the same fetish. Those leave for the San Theodoros, a Republic of South America. Tintin continues them and is found in the middle of a revolution.
Following a coincidence, it becomes aide-de-camp of the Général Alcazar. A war having burst between San Theodoros and its neighbor, the Nuevo Rico, Tintin, having continued by all, flees at Arumbayas. It discovers there finally the secrecy of the fetish: this one contains an invaluable diamond. It is finally in Europe that Tintin will find the fetish and will return it to the museum.
Around the album
Once again, Hergé slips there of allusions to the world topicality. The war San Theodoros - Nuevo Rico for oil is a transposition of the Guerre of Chaco which opposed the Paraguay and the Bolivia during the Années 1930.
In this album, Tintin meets some Basil Bazaroff. This one is not other than the portrait of a famous merchant of weapons of the time named Basil Zaharoff. It becomes acquainted also with the Ridgewell explorer, whose history resembles much that of the colonel Percy Fawcett who disappeared in the forests from South America in 1925 while trying to discover a lost city. A rumor ran whereas it had decided to leave civilization to go to live with the Indians.
Anecdote
- It acts of the one of the three only albums where Tintin is drunk (others being Tintin with the country of the Soviets and the Crab with the Gold Grips ).
- It is the first album where Hergé decided to make evolve/move its hero in an imaginary country, San Théodoros, close to Nuevo Rico.
- It is the first adventure where one sees Tintin in his apartment, with 26 rue du Labrador.
