The bicycle (vélopartage)
the Bicycle is the system of hiring of bicycles in self-service of Marseilles available since October 12th, 2007, set up by the municipality and managed by JCDecaux which declines a Marseilles version of its system Cyclocity. 700 bicycles are available in 80 stations. In the long term, the town hall announces 1000 bicycles out of 130 stations.
After the payment of a subscription (1 € for the week, annual subscription long life to 5 €), each use includes/understands first free half an hour then is invoiced 1 € per hour additional (0.50 € for the subscriptions long life).
The town of Marseilles hopes to have more than 50.000 subscribers the next year and to thus reduce circulation in the hypercentre. But the city suffers from the weakness of its network of cycle tracks. Marseilles does not count thus that 70 km of cycle installations downtown (by Strasbourg comparison have some 400 km, Lyon 310 km or Bordeaux 240 km)
