The World is a Archipel of artificial islands of the United Arab Emirates, in the Persian Gulf with broad of the emirate of Dubai, and which will represent a Planisphère where will appear all the country of the world.

Geography

The archipelago, of nine kilometers length and seven broad, is located at four kilometers of the coasts, between Jumeirah Palm and Deira Palm. It will gather between 250 to 300 private islands which will be allocated with the Tourisme, with the habitat and some, isolated, reserved to the celebrities. The prices for each island will spread out between 10 million and 45 million US$. Smallest will measure 23  226 m ² and largest 83  613 m ². They will be separate from/to each other by channels broad from fifty to hundred meters and deep of five mètres  ; the unit will be girdled by a dam. The originators provide that The World will be visible with the naked eye since the International space station.

Construction

Construction began in September 2003 and is still in hand. The company Nakheel Properties (Nakheel Corp.) is charged with the building site whose end is planned for 2008. Work, of which the labor is mainly made up immigrant workers, is carried out in continuous manner, 24:00 /24 and 7j/7. The sea front of Dubai will gain 232 kilometers. The volume of materials (mainly of sand) represents 326 million Mr.
