The Whiting

the Whiting is a district of the 14 {{E}} district of Marseilles.

The district skirts the avenue of Whiting and comprises various buildings and institutions bearing very an other name: the Faculty of Saint Jerome (Sciences and Right), the basin of Holy Marthe who treats the water which will be distributed to all the city, inter alia. Reciprocally, and paradoxically, others not being on the spot bear the name of the district from there: Urban center of Whiting, Library of Whiting, for example, localized on the St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre district. Formerly, of many mills occupied the place; today renovated, they act as residences for students. The name of the district comes from a great landowner to whom belonged the majority of the grounds of the district, Mr. Mehlan , name transformed with the wire of time into Merlan .
