the Weddings (in Russian Свадебка ) is a Ballet for voice and instruments of Igor Stravinski, created in 1923.

It is about a Ballet - Cantate whose composition extends between 1914 and 1923 in three successive versions. The first, written between 1914 and 1917 (that is to say one year after its Rite of Spring ), is a partition for four votes, choruses and symphonic full orchestra. The orchestration was completely revised of it in 1919, this time for small orchestra primarily made up of percussions, Cymbalom S Hungarian, Harmonium and Pianola. The use of mechanical instruments appeared delicate in the direction of the construction of two cymbaloms with keyboards (luthéals) by the firm Pleyel and the third grinding was worked in 1921, this time for four Piano S and percussions in addition to the voices and the choruses.

Creation took place on June 13rd 1923 with Paris by the Russian Ballets, under the musical direction of Ernest Ansermet. The Chorégraphie was entrusted by it to Bronislava Nijinska, sister of famous the dancer.

Work is made up of four tables and its execution lasts a score of minutes. The argument is the course of a marriage in the Russian country medium. The text is inspired by Chant S popular Ukrainian and Belorusse, translated and adapted in particular by Charles Ferdinand Ramuz.
