The Walt Disney Story

The Walt Disney Story was an attraction-exposure of the parks Magic Kingdom and Disneyland open in 1973 and devoted to work and the history of Walt Disney.

Two attractions are located at the entry of the park on the line and give on Town Square. In a hall an exposure were presented and in a theater the same film was projected. After projection the visitor returned to the exposure but the resemblances stopped there.

History

After the death of Walt Disney in 1966, many members of the Disney company felt invested by the need for paying homage to the late founder. As from June 1969, more than 200 employees of the Walt Disney Productions launch out in the visualization of the interviews made by Walt Disney and the selection of sequences to carry out a film where he would tell itself his history.

In March 1973, a film of 23 min was proposed. It was conceived as a book of remembering and was to be projected with the format 2,67:1 is close to too screens broad for one top.

The film

The film started with the birth of Walt in 1901, then its childhood with Marceline, its participation in the First World War in so much of ambulance man then the beginnings in animation with Kansas City. Then it evoked the beginnings of Disney Brothers Studios starting from 1923 with the series of Alice Comedies or Mickey Mouse. The cartoon films feature-length films were then evoked with mainly White-Snow, Fantasia, Alice with the Country of the Wonders and Cendrillon. The following section was interested in the parks with topics with Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort. Part of film carried out to promote the field of Florida was re-used to explain the project of EPCOT (still noncarried out with the opening of attraction). In conclusion, Walt explained its role of bee (of inspirer-agitator-catalyst) within Walt Disney Productions.

Attractions

Disneyland

The attraction of Disneyland was installed in 1973 in the Opera House of Main Street the USA. It included/understood in the hall an important collection of memories on Walt Disney

From 1975 following protests tells the stop of Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, attraction includes the presentation of Abraham Lincoln following film on Walt. Attraction thus becomes very long, nearly 40 minutes and its new name is as much The Walt Disney Story featuring Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln .

In 1984, with the profit of an update of the part including/understanding Abraham Lincoln, the film on Walt Disney is removed. Attraction kept its name and most of the exposure memories but many visitors considered that the heart of the places is not any more the same one.


Magic Kingdom

Attraction conceived at the same time as that of Disneyland was installed in a building builds especially for it. This building is located on the line of the GULF Hospitality House behind a court crossed by a covered way. It accommodates two theaters of 300 places laid out one behind the other with one taken down.

The visitor went along the first theater by the south by a broad corridor in which a chronological exposure of memories of Walt Disney was presented. Letters, photographs and objects were laid out on the walls or in windows. Famous, and single one, Oscar with 8 characters, offered to Walt for White Snow and the 7 dwarves was introduced during all the longevity of attraction.
Then the visitor reached taken down connecting the two rooms. It was a broad room giving access to the two theaters where the film was projected. On the long southern convex wall, 170 characters of Disney were represented on a fresco. Several characters were added there after the opening of attraction until 1988, date on which the additions monopolized too much time to the organizers. One of them would have stated not to be a painter or at least to want not to spend its time in " more; cette" part.
