The Wall-on-Seine
the Wall-on-Seine is a common department of the Yvelines, in the area Île-de-France, in France, located at approximately 8 km in the east of Mantes-the-Pretty and at 46 km in the west of Paris.
Its name comes from Latin maceria , walls.
The inhabitants are called Méziérois.
Geography
The commune of the Wall-on-Seine is in the North-West of Yvelines, in edge of the Seine on left bank of the Fleuve, with 8 kilometers with the east of Mantes-the-Pretty, chief town of district and with 37 kilometers in the North-West of Versailles, the prefecture of the department.
The commune is bordering on Guerville in the west, of Épône in the east, Boinville-in-Mantois and Goussonville in the south. In north, the Seine separates it from Gargenville, Issou and Porcheville.
The communal territory is with 1042 hectares, a little larger than the average yvelinoise (872 ha). It extends on approximately 5 km from north in the south and 3,5 km of are in west. It includes/understands two quite distinct parts: in north the alluvial plain of the Seine between 25 and 30 meters of altitude, in the south, the plate of the Mantois which dominates it between 130 and 140 meters of altitude, culminating with 157 meters with the “hillock of the low walls” in the west of the territory. The borough is with the foot of the slope and tends to develop towards north in direction of the station.
On the hydrographic plan, the common longe the left bank of the Seine on approximately 3,5 km. No other river is present on the territory. The small valley of Limekiln, dug by erosion in the slope between Villeneuve and the borough, does not have a permanent river, but is sometimes prone to floods.
The communal territory is mainly rural, to 81%. The rural areas, which cover 872 hectares includes/understands approximately 40% of wooded areas located on the fringes north, dominating the valley of the Seine and including to some extent the site of an old career, and south (wood of Mézerolles, dominating the valley of the Ru of Seneville) of the plate. The remainder is dedicated to agriculture (field crop on the plate, truck farming along the Seine). With these spaces 86 hectares of green areas are added, including one great part included in the Golf of Guerville in the west of the commune.
Urbanized space represents 120 hectares (given 1999), made up primarily of individual habitat.
The habitat is grouped mainly in the borough, whose old core is established along the old road of forty pennies, and in two variations with Villeneuve and the Madness, located at the inter-commune limit with Épône, towards the south. The extension of the urbanization was done in two directions, towards the North-East it tends to occupy all space available between the old village and the railway, until the limit of Épône, towards the south, it goes up in the small valley of Limekiln until joining the hamlet of Villeneuve which extends even more to the south along the RD 130.
The habitat is made up mainly of houses established in many Lotissement S.
The main roads of communication, directed East-West, are in the alluvial plain which tends to be tightened towards the west. It is on the basis of the Seine:
- the Highway of Normandy A13, highway with 2 X 3 ways,
- the Paris Line it Harbor, railway line to double electrified track,
- the secondary road MINOR ROAD 113 (ex national 13), which was deviated towards north in the years 1960 to circumvent Épône and Mézières.
On the road level, the common one has access to the highway by the exchanger n° 9 located at Épône at the crossing of the MINOR ROAD 130. The secondary and communal roads ensure the connections with the common neighbors. In fact in particular the MINOR ROAD 113 already quoted connects Mantes-the-Pretty Saint-Germain-in-Bush hammer to , the MINOR ROAD 130, directed North-South, which connects the French Vexin to the center of Yvelines.
The railway service road of the commune is ensured by the Gare of Épône - Wall, located at the North-East of the commune, which offers frequent connections with the Mantes-the-Pretty Gare Saint-Lazare on the one hand and on the other hand. Non-stop trains serve also the Gare Montparnasse via Pleasure-Oil cake and Versailles-Building sites.
Various lines with high voltage resulting from the thermo plant of Porcheville (Right Bank of the Seine) crosses the commune. One skirts the highway towards the east, five others, North-South, join, by the western part of the commune, the station of distribution of Mézerolles (commune of Boinville-in-Mantois).
History
The site was occupied as of the Préhistoire, as the cut and polished Silex testify some which were found there.
In IXe century, Mézières was feudal dependence of the chapter of Notre-Dame de Paris.
The borough was burnt the September 22nd 1870 in consequence of the bombardments of the Prussian army of the general of Bredow.
