the Vigneux-on-Seine is a common French, located in the department of the the Essonne and the area Île-de-France. Its inhabitants is called Vigneusiens and Vigneusiennes.

Geography

The Vigneux-on-Seine draws its name from the vines formerly cultivated on the edges of the river. Slightly with the variation of the great terrestrial transportation routes towards Paris, which is with less than 20 kilometers in north, the city on the other hand is marked by the river transport. It sheltered a long time one of the most important industrial ports upstream of Paris. This port, fallen in déshérance, must be renovated. A vat connected the city to the Ablon-on-Seine, the neighbor of left bank. The pit Montalbot, old sand pit transformed into lake with access towards the Seine, is used as water point at a school of veil.

The situation of the city, between the Seine and national forest of Sénart, invited the successive mayors to preserve a rather green framework of life, with a not very dense urbanization, contrary for example to its neighbor of Villeneuve-Saint-Georges. About half of the communal territory consists today of green areas, timbered or out of water, and of plowed grounds.

The commune is served by the line D of the RER, which stops with the Gare of the Vigneux-on-Seine.

The communes bordering are Montgeron, Draveil, Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, Athis-Mons, the Ablon-on-Seine and Villeneuve-the-King.

History

Vigneux, peaceful decorated village of castles, was marked by the post-industrial Révolution while becoming one of the most important ports of the the Seine and a center of harbor industry in XIIe century. The railroad connects the city to Paris as from 1861. It is the beginning of a demographic explosion similar to those of much of suburban towns.

Justifying the currency of the city ( E flumine surgens , “left the river”), the history of Vigneux is also that of a domestication of the Seine, whose bed was particularly broad.

In the years 1960, the shouting lack of residences brings to build vast units HLM in the district of theWhite one. These high towers push in the middle of the city, not far from the station and of the town hall, on an extent up to that point deserted. Vigneux makes more than to double population, which contributes to destructurer a little more one territory which found its true downtown area forever. Work of rehabilitation of the district of Cross-White was undertaken in the years 2000, to give to the collective habitat a more human aspect.
