Geography

History

In the Middle Ages, the inhabitants of Viéville owed to the duke of Lorraine a guard to the castle of Prény. The Viéville-in-Hague was ruined by the Messina army rabble at the time of the conflict of 1427-29 which opposed the city of Metz to the duke of Lorraine and his allies. Alarmed by Jean Griffon, Holy-Marie-with-Wood abbot which held the collation of the cure of Viéville, the duke of Lorraine Rene of Anjou ordered the restoration of this village by a charter gone back to 1436.Soixante-dix years later, this place was always ruined and vacuum of inhabitants. Thanks to the gifts of the knight Nicolas de Heu and the rider Nicolas Remiat who gave up in Prémontrés " very such right, wagiere, seigniory, bases, reserves, revenues, supposed, droictures and revenus" in the localities of the Viéville-in-Hague and of Vilcey-on-trey, Pierre de Prény, abbot of Sainte Marie-with-Wood could make call in 1504 with colonists in order to rebuild this locality and conceded to them for this purpose the grounds necessary to build " two kidneys of maisons" , as well as grounds to be cultivated; in the same way part of the abbey forest was yielded to the new village community of the Viéville-in-Hague. This restoration was this time a success and the monks of Sainte-Marie could take said and revenues of which " the assise" on their new flocks. There was before the First World War, in the middle of the locality, a house seigneuriale of 1752 with a dovecote of 1781.
