Built by the architects Bernard Weixler and François Rohmer, associated to the scenographer Jerome Hbersetzer, between the Road of the Rhine and the old harbor-basins of Strasbourg, this space is inaugurated the June 20th 2005. It has vocation to accommodate a public of school or family and to present sciences under a ludic and educational aspect on the model of the Cité of sciences and industry of the Villette.
Intended for the children from 3 to 15 years, the Vessel is a place to learn, but also to distract themselves, where the child is brought to handle, compare, question themselves according to his own rate/rhythm and his own centers of interest. The Vessel offers to the children keys of comprehension of the world in which they live today and especially of that which will be theirs tomorrow. It must also be an educational tool with the service of the parents and teachers.
The exposures are in French, German and English. The building, the garden and the exposures were conceived to be accessible to the people in situation from handicap.
