The Vault-of-Marsh

the Vault-of-Marsh is a common French, located in the department of the Loire-Atlantique and the area Pays of the Loire. The inhabitants of the commune are called the Marais Chaplains and Marais Chapelaines .

Geography

  • the Vault-of-Marsh is located at 25 km in the north of Saint-Nazaire, 42 km in the south of Redon, 57 km in the east of Vannes and 67 km in the west of Nantes.

History

With Xe century, Brittany was invaded by an enemy: the Norman ones. Their chief, of the name of Bernard, took possession of a granitic rock located at the mouth of the Unpleasant one. Thus was born the Rock-Bernard.

Notable Breton returned from England to drive out the Norman ones. The lord of the Rock-Bernard recognized the suzerainty of this one and obtained, inter alia, the territory of Large Brière. One of his lieutenants founded the stronghold of the Marshes from which this geographical sector formed part.

The commune depended on Baronnie of the Rock-Bernard until the Revolution. In 1039, the parishes constituted an institutional and territorial framework inherited the Early middle ages, religious districts, often legal and tax.

They were divided into Frairies. The Vault of the Marshes belonged to the parish of Missillac, and was called the Festivity of Marai. Its chief provided for erection with the crosses, with repairs of the wells, the furnaces, the presses belonging to the villages and the maintenance of the roads. In 1641, the Parliament of Brittany authorized " the Festivity of Marais" to force itself of a certain sum in order to finish the construction of a vault. It was built with the site of the current church to the place called " the small hamlet of Perrière".

A certain number of tradesmen settled and founded the borough of the Vault-of-Marsh.

For reasons related to the religious practice, steps were taken towards Monseigneur the Bishop of Nantes in order to obtain the authorization to found a parish independent of that of Missillac. Afterwards many discussions especially dependant on financial problems, an agreement was reached on June 10th 1771. The parish was called the Vault of the Marshes. It will be divided into three festivities: the festivity of the Borough, the festivity of Mayun, the festivity of Camer, Camerun and Québitre.

Under the crook of its priests, the general information of the parishioners which filled the role of the current Municipal council concentrated between his hands the religious, civil and tax administration. This social body was composed of twelve notable (the most imposed) as well as marguilliers in load.

They chose in their center the distributers of taxes and the accountant of the office of charity called nicely " the Father of Pauvres". The General information met five to six times per annum at the sacristy, with the call of the bell. Any not justified absence was sanctioned by a fine poured with the profit of the poor.

March 5th 1789, the State Third of the Vault of the Marshes, meets to write the Book of the Complaints.

January 15th 1790, the Constituent one projected to erase old historical divisions of France. The provinces and the parishes were replaced by the departments and the communes.

The first mayor of the Vault of the Marshes was Pierre Thoby, of Québitre.

At the end of 1794, chouannery, suppression of the religious orders and names of Saints: the Vault of the Marshes was transformed into Réunion of the Marshes . With the signature of the Legal settlement in 1802, the civil war finished and the commune took again its name of Vault-of-Marsh .
