The Valencian Community

The Valencian Communauté is one of the seventeen autonomous communities of Spain. Its government is the Valencian Généralité ( Generalitat Valenciana ).

It has as a capital Valence ( Valencia/Valencia ) with: 805304 inhabitants (in 2006) and an agglomeration (metropolitan surface) of: 1730853 inhabitants. The second city in population is Alicante ( Alacant/Alicante ) with: 322431 inhabitants, and the third Elche ( Elx/Elche ), with: 219032 inhabitants. These two last cities are together within an agglomeration of: 724662 inhabitants. In all, the Valencian Community counts: 4806908 inhabitants, is 10,75  % of the Spanish total.

It is located at the east of the country, on the Mediterranean coast, between the Catalogne, the Aragon in north, the Castille it Manche in the west and the Région of Murcie in the south. This community includes/understands the provinces of Valence, Alacant and Castelló.

The official languages are the Valencian there, variety of the Catalan, which is usually spoken by more 26  % of the population, and the Castilian , language used by approximately 74  % of the population. The community is called in Valencian Comunitat Valenciana , and Comunidad Valenciana in Castilian. In addition, and because of recent immigration, there exist minorities linguistic English, Rumanian, Arab, French and German. 13,3  % of the population listed at the 2006 was not in fact not Spanish nationality.

In 2007, the Popular party (Partido Popular) was with the capacity.

History

The territory coincides, approximately, with the history Royaume of Valence , created following the Christian conquest of the territory realized by Jacques I {{er}} of Aragon at the 13th century, within the framework of the Couronne of Aragon. To this first territory would be added, in 1304, the southern half of the Alacant, who had been conquered before by the Couronne of Castille.

The dynastic union of the catholic Kings, at the end of the 15th century, was at the origin of the political union of the Hispanic kingdoms, including the Kingdom of Valence.

Economy

Since second half of the 20th century, the Valencian Community became a very dynamic area economically, with a flourishing Tourisme on all its coast, a powerful Industrie in cities like Elx ( Elche ), Sagunt ( Sagonte ), Alcoi or the metropolitan surface of Valence and important a exporting Agriculture of citrus fruits and vegetables.

The Valencian economy is especially characterized by the presence of a small and average dense fabric Entreprise S, number of them of family structure.

In year 2002, the Valencian Community generated 10,5  % of the Spanish GDP and 12  % of exports, being second exporting autonomous community of Spain.

Gastronomy

The Valencian Gastronomie is of a large variety, but its most international mets are the Riz, most known of which is the Paëlla. Rice ( arròs into Valencian) is the basic ingredient of a great number of typical dishes, arròs has bandaged , arròs Al forn , arròs negro (black rice), arròs amb will costra , or arròs caldós , between much of others.

The Valencian Mediterranean climate is very favorable to the culture of the Agrume S and the Légume S, in particular that of the orange ( taronja ), typical fruit of Valencian agriculture. The culture of Amande S ( ametlles ) is it also very widespread.

As for drinks, the Orxata, made starting from water, sugar and of Shoveler duck S, is very typical, especially in summer.

The majority of the traditional desserts owe their origin with the old Moslem presence on the grounds of the Community. Most famous of them is the touron ( torró ), kind of nougat containing almonds. Produced with Xixona ( Jijona ), it is the traditional dessert for Christmas in all Spain and part of the Latin America.

Lastly, the Valencian Community is a viticultural area, with in particular the wines of the area of Utiel-Requena.
