The Ural (motor bike)

Ural or the Ural is a Russian mark of Motos .

History

At the beginning of the Second world war, the Red Army still uses horses. It must thus be modernized.

The origin of the first Russian motor bikes is prone to controversy. The first version would be that the Russian engineers would have bought discreetly, via Scandinavian intermediaries, harnessed BMW R71, with an aim of dismounting them and of making copies.

The produced model receives the M72 denomination (for Mototziklietniy 72) and leaves the chains of two sites: Moscow and Leningrad.

In 1941, after the invasion of the Soviet territory by the German army, the factories must be moved towards the east, out of reach of the German attacks. The factory of Leningrad is moved in Gorki, while that of Moscow settles with Irbit, in the middle of the assembly line the Ural. The name of the factory is Irbitski Mototsikletny Zavod (factory of motor bicycles of Irbit) or IMZ. The produced motor bikes are of mark “the Ural” (or Ural).
It as should be noted as because of an important delay in the production, of the factories located at Kiev and Harkov will also produce of M72.
It appears also that the the United States would have, thereafter provided machine tools to produce M72, like helps with an ally. Some of these machines would be always used.

After the war, the production continues to provide the Red Army and the civil market. In 1957, the factory of Kiev is dedicated to the military models, the Ural which will leave there will raise the logo Dniepr. The civil models will be them resulting from the factory of Irbit, while the factory of Gorki is closed and its machines are sold with the China to produce the Chang-Jiang.
