The University of California with San Diego

The the University of California with San Diego (commonly called UCSD ) is a campus of the the University of California, located at San Diego, but precisely at La Jolla. UCSD is 194 kilometers (120 miles) of Los Angeles. It was founded in 1959. The campus is nicely wooded with trees of giant Eucalyptus.

UCSD is regarded as one of the best universities in the world and was classified 13th world in 2006 by the Université Jiao Tong of Shanghai. In 2007 it is classified 14th, behind UCLA and before the Université of Pennsylvania.

Six colleges

The UCSD is divided into six colleges. Each one has various obligatory matters. The six colleges are Eleanor Roosevelt College, Earl Warren College, Thurgood Marshall College, John Muir College, Revelle College, and Sixth College.

Admissions

The UCSD is very selective: only 45,7% of the 43.587 candidates were allowed in 2006. Among the selected candidates, the average note with the college was 4,04, in a system oú one 4,0 corresponds to an A. the average note of the candidates coming from another university (entering in third year) was of 3,32. The candidates must choose in which college among the six (see above) they want to be allowed. It is necessary to specify the order of its choice between the various colleges at the time of the inscription. In 2005, the 3.720 students who were registered with UCSD are divided between the six colleges as it follows:
  • Reveals: 756 students is 20%
  • John Muir: 640 students is 17%
  • Thurgood Marshall: 667 students is 18%
  • Earl Warren: 582 students is 16%
  • Eleanor Roosevelt: 608 students is 16%
  • Sixth: 467 students is 13%
