The Tower of guard

the Tower of guard ( The Watchtower in English), Re-examined international created in 1879, is one of the Magazines distributed by the Témoins of Jéhovah. It constitutes the principal body of biblical teaching of their organization. This name also indicates the company which publishes it and diffuses it.

History

Following its controversy with Nelson Barbour on the Doctrines of the ransom, Charles Taze Russell created this newspaper in July 1879. Reflecting at the beginning its comprehension of the biblical message , it currently expresses the official point of view of the direction (Central Collège) of the Témoins of Jéhovah.

This periodical received several names during its existence:

  • the Headlight of the Tower of Sion and Messager of the Presence of Christ (until 1909);
  • the Tower of Guard and Messenger of the Presence of Christ (until January 1939);
  • the Tower of Guard and Messenger of the Kingdom of Christ (until March 1939);
  • the Tower of Guard announces the Kingdom of Jéhovah (current name).

In the beginning, this magazine comprised eight pages and appeared monthly. In 1891, it passed in 16 pages and in 1892, it became semi-monthly. It is starting from 1950 that it took its current form with 32 pages.

Its Traduction in other languages was done in a progressive way. The first edition in German saw the day in 1897, and in 1916, the magazine was published in seven European languages . Starting from 1922, pulling was done in 16 languages. Then, at the end of the century, its edition conserna of many languages, of which some Dialect S spoken by a minority about people.

The periodical was diffused initially little, its average pulling reaching only 45.000 in 1916. The subscription with this one was, as of 1939, proposed with the public, and consequently one presented it in the activity of evangelization.

In 1879, the periodical specified that those which could not pay the yearly subscription of a half-dollar could nevertheless receive the magazine grâcieusement. The unit price of this one was initially of 1,50 FF, then of 2 FF, before becoming free starting from 1990.

In a letter of the February 9th 2007, the Central Collège of Brooklyn announces that there will be starting from the 2008, two types of Turn of duty : one for the general public published 1st of the month, the other for faithful the Pilot of Jéhovah the 15 of the month and containing the articles studied at the time of the meetings.

The GOAL OF the TOWER OF GUARD is of exalter Jéhovah God, the Sovereign Lord of the universe. This periodical follows the walk of the world events which carry out the Prophétie S of the Bible. It attempts to comfort all the people by this good news: the Kingdom of God will make soon disappear those which oppress their next and will transform then the ground into Paradis. Moreover, he encourages his readers to believe in Jesus Christ - the reigning King established by God -, that which, by pouring its blood, opened with humanity the way eternal life. This periodical, published by the Pilot of Jéhovah, appears since 1879. It is apolitical and rests exclusively on the Bible.

Contents

The magazine comprises 32 pages. It currently contains:

  • one or more articles developing the topic evoked in cover;
  • two articles - sometimes three - which will make the object of an examination by questions and answers, at the time of the public meeting of the weekend to the Salle of the Kingdom; each one of these articles, based on a verse-key, is parcelled out in a score of paragraphs and contains one framed of revision;
And according to the numbers:
  • of the exemplary Biography S of Pilot of Jéhovah;
  • of the outstanding points of a book of the Bible in particular;
  • the account of a class of Guiléad (school of formation missionary of the Pilot of Jéhovah);
  • the heading " You remember it " (often on page 30), which raises some questions, followed by a concise answer, on a selection of subjects having been treated in preceding numbers;
  • the heading " Questions of the lecteurs" (often on page 31);
  • a short article inviting to attend meetings or to request a study of the Bible on last page, with mention of offices of subsidiary companies of several countries and the address of the official site of the Company Watchtower.

Diffusion

From 6.000 specimens in a language at its origin, this magazine passed to an average pulling of 28.578.000 specimens in 161 languages. The editions are semi-monthly for the majority of the languages, while some are only monthly, even quarterly. There exist also versions on cassette or compact audio disc in many languages.
