Chronology

1788 : the London Daily Universal Register becomes The Times ;
- 1806: appearance of the first illustrations;
- 1908: Lord Northcliffe repurchases the newspaper;
- of 1922 to 1966: begun again successively by Major Astor, then by Roy Thomson;
- 1979: republication after 50 weeks of strike;
- 1981: the billionaire anglo-australo-American Rupert Murdoch repurchases the daily newspaper.
