The Time (group)
The Time is a group of musicians resulting from the scene of Mineapolis, trained and produced by Prince under the Pseudonyme of Jamie Starr.
It is from now on allowed that Prince is the quasi-single author of the first three albums of The Time: The Time (1981), What Time Is It? (1982) and Ice Cream Castle (1984). However, Jesse Johnson claimed to be the author of the two pieces headlights of the 3rd album: Jungle Coils and The Bird , which is the object of a debate in the community of the fans.
The fourth album, Pandemonium (1990) contains five pieces of Prince, the others being written by the various members of the group.
The group was dissolved in 1984 before meeting again for Pandemonium in 1990, which was followed of a round. But the group separated again shortly after. An altered version of the group is however regularly in round under the name of Morris Day & The Time.
The Time took part in the film Purple Rain like with its continuation, Graffiti Bridge. One finds them on the original soundtrack of this last.

In 1983, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis miss a concert in first started from Prince with San Antonio. They will be transfered group at the end of the round and will become the producers with success of Change, S.O.S Band, Janet Jackson and much of others. Monte Moir will decide to follow them shortly after.
For the film Purple Rain , Prince will engage three other musicians to replace them:
- Paul Peterson (later St Paul in the group The Family): keyboards
- Cardenas Mark: keyboards
- Gerry Hubbard: low
In 1984, Morris Day decides to leave the group followed of little by Jesse Johnson. When the film leaves, the group does not exist in fact already more (in July 1984, Prince even already recorded the bands of the album for The Family, the group which taken succession of The Time).
Prince records again an album with Morris Day in 1989, entitled Corporate World . When the model is presented to Warner, the recording company announces its wish to see the original members of the group reinstating the project. Thus Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Assemble Moir and Jesse Johnson reinstates the group. They will give their agreement on the condition of taking part indeed in the production and with the writing of the disc, it is what will give Pandemonium ( Corporate World is abandoned although several of its titles are found on Pandemonium or Graffiti Bridge ).
The group decides to vote Jesse Johnson out of the group at the time of a round in Japan. Thereafter, Morris Day decided to leave in round with novel members the group. they still regularly play the contents of the four albums of the group.

Origin of the group
The group was formed about 1973 per James Harris III (Jimmy Jam) and Terry Lewis, two buddies of college. Many singers or different musicians composed the group and among them Alexander O' Neal and Cynthia Johnson (later in the group Lipps Inc).Prince created the group The Time in 1981, making of this project a competitor with his own music! Moreover, the first album of The Time, éponyme, will profit from better sales that the album of Prince preceding it immediately ( Dirty Mind , left in October 1980).
Prince will go even until affirming that The Time is the only group of which it is really afraid .
Although the first two albums were classified Disques of gold to the the United States, it is especially Ice Cream Castle which marked the spirits, because two of its titles, Jungle Coils and The Bird , appears in the film Purple Rain .

Careers solos
In the interval between 1984 and 1989, several member of the group carried out important careers solos.Morris Day made appear three albums: Color Off Success (1985), Daydreaming (1987), and Guaranteed (1991). A fourth album, It' S Butt Time , is appeared in 2005 mixing recordings live of The Time with four studios productions. It also produces under-productions like The Day Z' S (a group of girls).
Jesse Johnson was regarded as a direct competitor of Prince. It published four albums solo: Review (1985), Shockadelica (1986), Every Shade Of Coils (1988) and Bare My Naked Soul (1996). It produces several groups with its characteristic of Mineapolis: Da Krash, Your Mara & The Seen, Kool Skool…
