the Thought straight is a collection of articles Féministe S of Monique Wittig initially published in English in 1992, then in 2001 in French.

  • “the Category of sex”: The author claims the abolition of this discriminatory category.

Reception

The collection gathers articles published in feminist Questions and Feminist Issues between 1980 and 1990, as well as texts published in other reviews.

By its theses resulting from the radical Feminism related to a reflection on the Saphisme, Monique Wittig seeks the Women's Liberation through a new vision of the relations between the Femme S and the Homme S. the women are seen either through a report/ratio of domination and dependence, but as a subject free and independent of any bond with the men. The name " femme" connoting the report/ratio of dependence with the men, Monique Wittig rejects it by underlining sexual and political independence lesbians: " the lesbians are not femmes".

Initially appeared in the United States of America under the title The Straight Mind , the collection influenced feminist philosophers like Judith Butler, and all the current Queer . Marie-Helene Bourcier thus translated into French the English texts for the French edition.
