The Test-tube
the Test-tube is an assessment devoted to the Cartoon published by Association of January 2006 at January 2007. Its format is of 15x22cm and it contains several hundreds of pages.
The principle of the review is to give the word in priority to the authors and to the actors of the world of the cartoon, word which can be expressed by the means of texts or of cartoons, in the continuity of the collection Éprouvette created by the editor in January 2005 (with Plates-bandes , of Jean-Christophe Menu).
Number 1 (January 2006)
The first number contains 192 pages and is organized in four parts.
After a leading article ragor of Jean-Christophe Menu borrowing from esthetics Hobby-horse, one finds various considerations on the cartoon in general (Alex Baladi, Harry Morgan, Tanitoc), the superiority of the word of the artist on that of criticisms (Joann Sfar), plagiarism in the cartoon (Bernard Joubert) or the draftsmen of Heroïc-Fantasy (Riad Sattouf). François Caradec is interviewed there by Jean-Christophe Menu.
A second part, to which contribute as a cartoon Mahler, Jean-Christophe Menu, Alex Baladi, Jean-Luc Coudray, Mathsap, Thiriet, Florence Cestac, Jean Bourguignon, Fafé, Fanny Flagstone-Bank, Jose Parrondo, James, Vincent Sardon, Lewis Trondheim and Benoît BSK. Erwin Dejasse evokes its past of “dedicacolic”, Florent Ruppert and Jerome Mulot exposes to Menu their innovative way to conceive the dedication, Fabrice Neaud develops a cynical theory on what pushes authors and readers with the festivals, while Pacôme Thiellement brings closer dedication and black Magie.
Same Thiellement, Finely and Christian Rosset are attacked in a third part with the concept of avant-garde as a cartoon.
Lastly, “plant-battles”, attempts to continue what had been inaugurated in January 2005 by Menu in Plates-bandes . Jochen Gerner, Jean-Louis Gauthey, James, Finely, Etienne Robial, Cestac, Latino Imperato, Yvan Alagbé, Sfar, David Vandermeulen and Riad Sattouf criticize the plundering of discovered alternate editors by the largest editors, the standardization of the market of the comic strip… and Hugo Pratt.
Number 2 (June 2006)
The 415 pages of the second number, around a team (to which one can add Pakito Bolino, Edmond Baudoin, which evokes its past, Yves di Manno and Matt Broersma) and of an organization (first page hundred not set of themes, last hundred devoted to the fight against those which go on the “plat bands” of alternate similar (where is lengthily interviewed Barthélémy Schwartz around the adventure of the review avant-gardist of cartoon, the Dorénavant (1986-1989)), is centered on three topics:
- the “progressive erosion of the borders”; by the interrogation of works which, while being attached to the Cartoon, also belong to others Art S, like work of Charlotte Solomon, Yves Deloule, Benoît Jacques. Julie Doucet is questioned there in connection with its stop of the cartoon, Lefred-Thouron and Luz about the relationship between Dessin of press and cartoon.
- plagiarism. Bernard Joubert continues his exploration of the lack of creativity in the Fumetti , Dominique Hérody, Fabrice Tarrin, Francis Masse and Morvandiau delivers their reflections. Thiellement delivers an analysis general practitioner of plagiarism around the concepts of Immanence and Transcendance. Big Ben, creator of Comix Club , re-examined critical of which it directed to Groinge the first three numbers, attacks with humor and car-derision the claim of Association to govern the field of the alternate ones.
- the Cosmic disappearance of Capsule , in a special book in colors and glazed paper in which the team of the late review takes part, which regulates its accounts with their editor, who would have given up them not because the newspaper was overdrawn, but because it was not profitable enough.
Number 3 (January 2007)
In order to avoid sinking in the monolithism, Association decided to stop the publication of the review to this third number, whose topic should be the Test-tube itself.
