History
To include/understand the history of the Tail in Brie we are obliged to make a turning by the history of Gournay-sur-Marne on which the châtellenie of the Tail depended.
Towards 1100 Guy II of Montlehery known as " the rouge" , husband of Elisabeth de Crecy is Count de Rochefort (in Yvelines), lord of Châteaufort, Gournay-sur-Marne and Crecy in Brie because of his wife. Seneshal of France (before 1095), he is founder of the priory of Gournay. (E.Lebeau)
It has 6 children of which Agnès of Rochefort which succeeds his/her brother Guy II of Rochefort and gains the whole of its goods including the county of Rochefort and the seigniory of St Arnoult. She marries Anseau de Garlande. Anseau de Garlande (or Ansel), Count de Rochefort in Yvelines east Seneshal of France (1108). He marries in second Agnès weddings of Rochefort from which he has a Agnès girl. He receives in 1107 of prince Louis, future king Louis VI the châtellenie of Gournay-sur-Marne raising since 988 of the county of Melun. and becomes lord of Pontault and Berchères (E.Lebeau). He dies in 1118 at the time of the attack against the castle of Hugues of Puiset, The châtellenie of Gournay returns to his/her younger brother Etienne de Garlande, in his capacity as tutor of its niece Agnès de Garlande.
Agnes de Garlande, (1122-1143) is Comtesse of Rochefort, Dame of Gournay on Marne and Gomets. She marries in first weddings in 1120 Amaury III of Montfort († 1136) which becomes count de Gournay from his wife. Amaury III of Montfort and Agnès de Garlande have three children of which Agnès de Montfort, born in 1123 in Montfort Amaury (78), deceased the 12/22/1181. She is Dame of Rochefort, Baronne of Gournay.
In 1139, Agnes de Garlande remarie with Robert 1st of Dreux (brother of the king Louis VII) which becomes of this fact suzerain of the châtellenie of Gournay on which the Tail in Brie depends.
Agnes de Montfort marries in 1141 Valéran 1st of Meulan born about 1104 in Leicester (England), deceased the 4/9/1166 with Préaux (76).
Valéran 1st of Meulan is also Galéran IV of Beaumont the Roger because he is the son of Robert 1st of Meulan (known as the Industrial tribunal) and of Isabeau de Crépy (Isabelle de Vermandois-Valois), small son of Roger 1st of Beaumont the Roger and Adeline de Meulan, which explains the name change. He is called Galéran II of Meulan in Cartulaire of Notre Dame of the Fields. Married in first weddings with Bienne of England. He admits in 1157 holding Gournay of the king.
1127 Galeran II, count de Meulan, and his wife Agnes. are lords of Gournay, Tail in Brie, of Pontault and Roissy. (St Martin of the Fields N° 287)
At the same time, Mathieu II, count of Beaumont-on-Oise, (#1110 - >1174) Chambrier de France, sons of Mathieu 1st, count of Beaumont-on-Oise and Emme de Clermont, marries in second wedding Adèle (Alix or Aélis) of Luzarches (1130 -) Lady of the Tail in Brie. It had had for first wife Mathilde de Châteaudun (#1125- 6/26/1158) girl of Geoffroy de Châteaudun and Havise de Mondoubleau. (Anselme of co. Marie) .
In 1143, the Knight Harcherus de Cauda (Archer of the Tail one finds its trace of 1127 to 1183)) sells the ground of the Tail in Brie with Constancy, girl of Louis the Large one (1108-1137) and of Adele of Savoy. (Cartulaire St Martin of the Fields n°361 1143-1159) (Chartul. B Maria in Campis £. 40) She marries in 1140 Eustace IV (1127-1153), known as Eustace of Blois, count de Boulogne.qui was crowned king d' Angleterre in 1152. Deceased without child, king Louis the Young person, brother of Constancy, the remarie in 1154 in Raymond V (1134-1194), count de Toulouse of which it has four children. In 1165, they separate. In a letter which she writes with her brother Louis VII after her repudiation, she says: “I left my residence and am returned to me in a village (? the Tail in Brie) in the house of a certain knight (? Harchérus) because I had neither what to eat nor what to give to my servants. The count does not have any care of me and does not provide anything of its fields for my needs. ”
It always carried the quality of queen because of its first husband. It seems that she died in a convent on August 16th, 1176.
According to certain authors, it would have been lady of Montreuil-sous-Bois (93) and on the initiative of the construction of the feudal tower of the Tail-in-Brie
1166 Deaths of Galeran II of Meulan - Agnes de Montfort, countess of Meulan, are only the lord of the Tail in Brie
Here an ambiguity remains. Either Mathieu II and Adele had a girl also fore-mentioned Adèle born towards 1165 whom married Amaury 1st of Meulan, or Adèle (born in 1130) married in second Amaury weddings 1st of Meulan.
A 1182 Adele, Rams Tail in Brie of the count Mathieu II of Beaumont s/Oise wife Amaury II of Meulan (1150- † 1196), Seigneur of Beaumont, Gournay s/Marne, Tail in Brie by alliance. He is the son of Galeran II of Meulan and Agnes de Montfort. (Anselme of co. Marie T. VIII p. 405)
