Lessons of the wizard
Each volume of the cycle states a rule (of English rule , translated lesson). Each one of these rules has a philosophical dimension.
Here rules stated in the cycle:
-
1st lesson: People tend to hold for truth what they wish to be the truth or what they fear being the truth.
- 2nd lesson: The worst evils rise from the best intentions. One finds the popular proverb here: “The road to Hell is paved with good intentions”.
- 3rd lesson: Passion dominates the reason.
- 4th lesson: To exonerate, it is to give to the different one. But to as receive them more as what one offered to them. (page 365)
- 5th lesson: Point out what people do, and not only what they say, because the acts will betray a lie.
- 6th lesson: The only sovereign which one must accept the yoke is the reason.
- 7th lesson: The life is the future, not the past.
- 8th lesson: Deserve the victory.
- 9th lesson: A contradiction can exist, neither partly, nor in entirety.
- 10th lesson: To voluntarily deviate from the truth is a treason towards oneself even.
- 11th lesson:

They are the powerful predatory ones. Two races of garns exist: those with long tail, with the very limited intelligence, and those with short tail, more frightening still, because they have a capacity of surprising reflection. To drive out, the garns use particular flies, the flies with blood: bound to them, they fold back game by pricking it painfully, obliging it to reveal its hiding-place. The garns with short tail count their flies regularly, in order to know if a game in the vicinity killed one of the flies not to be located.
Ayant one day killed the mother of a garn, Richard collected the baby and raised it, taming it and managing even to be made a friend of it.

-

Richard succeeded in becoming friendly with a female, and being made allied, but it is an exception. In the beginning, the red dragons kill without pity all that they meet.

It locates its preys with their immobility or their escape (race), the walk of those Ci disturbing it. The only means of overcoming it is to put it in part. They are only present in volume 2.

The sword of truth
The saga car its name of the weapon of the same name. It is about a magic weapon, carried by a Sourcier of truth and handing-over with this last by the wizard of first order. There exists a great difference between a traditional Waterfinder, who found the sword, or stole it, and authentic Sourcier, to whom a wizard gave the weapon to him: Authentic Sourcier is able to use his capacity independently of the weapon, that makes it much more frightening than whoever. The wizard does nothing but find the Waterfinder, it does not make a Waterfinder of it while giving the weapon to him.
On the guard of the sword is encrusted the word truth in wire with gold. The spirits of the former Waterfinders can intervene through the weapon when this one is carried by current Sourcier, in order to help it in various spots, mainly to fight.
This weapon is very dangerous, as well for its carrier as for its adversary, because it increases the fury and the rage of its owner. When this one gives death by using it, it feels a great suffering, the only parade being the right ire of the Waterfinder. If anger is right, it attenuates and can make disappear the suffering except at the time of the first setting with death. It destroys the Waterfinder gradually, except if this last arrived to make transfer the color of the blade to the white; for that it must all forgive with the person whom it will kill. The sword can kill innocent only if the blade is white, the innocence of the person depends however on the point of view of the waterfinder of truth.
