The Street 1933
the Street is a table painted by Balthus in 1933. It is interesting in several connections: it shows of Onirisme and provocation while using of a traditional formalism which evokes the great names of the Renaissance. In addition, its history is by itself emblematic of the artistic trajectory of its author.
Exposed in 1934 to the Pierre gallery with Paris with other works quite as provocative, such as the lesson of guitar (1934), it was bought by a private collector which was in hillock with the censure of the customs, then of its neighbors and finally of the museum to which it made gift of it.
