The Spencer Davis Group

The Spencer Davis Group is a group of British rock'n'roll, originating in Birmingham (the United Kingdom), Co-founded in 1964 by Stevie Winwood (it did not have whereas 15 years!).

Stevie Winwood was leader of the " before; Rhythm and Quartet" blues; , playing readily of the jazz, and accompanied by the " pointures" blues such as Memphis Slim, Champion Dupree Jack… He was from now on the organist of Spencer Davis Group, with his Orgue Hammond, with hot sonorities. Its voice similar to that of the bluesmen black American drew the attention.

This group was made up moreover of Spencer Davis to the guitar, Muff Winwood with low, and of Peter York to the battery. Among their successes, let us quote Keep one running , Somebody help me , Dust my blues , special Midnight and Gimme Some Lovin' (inter alia). To also note the splendid interpretation of Georgia one my mind (cf: Ray Charles) and (especially?) Nobody knows you when you' Re down and out , traditional of the American black blues, without forgetting their tube I' m has man which the American group Chicago was going to take again later (with the jazz influences).

Steve Winwood formed thereafter other important groups like Traffic in 1967, Blind Faith into 1969 before continuing a career solo after 1975.
