the Souvigné-on-Sarthe is a common French, located in the department of the the Sarthe and the area Pays of the Loire. Its inhabitants are called Solviniacois.

Located at the borders of the Anjou and the Maine. The commune is located in a projection of the department of the Sarthe in the department close to Mayenne.

History

The origin of the parish would come from a monastery, given by Hugues of Juvardeil to the Abbaye of Ronceray of Angers and transformed later into priory.

At the 14th century, Jean de Souvigné has the seigniory, it married Helene, the girl of P. of Aubigné, rider, lord of the Key in Anjou.
La seigniory passes then to the " Anjou of the Rock-Talbot" , then in Bertrand of Jaille, chamberlain of the king Rene of Anjou.

Religious heritage

The Saint-Maurille church: the bishop of Angers at the 5th century, would have stopped in the forest of Souvigné, while going to England. From there the name would come from the church. At the 17th century, one still showed the stone on which the saint would have rested.
