The history of Soncourt is related to that of the village of Vignory, located at 3 km in north. The dismemberment of the empire of Charlemagne in 843 leads a lord to seize the territory of Vignory where it is made build a strong castle. Until the 18th century, Soncourt will be then a dependence of the seigniory of Vignory.
Since 1050 it is made mention in various files of Secundi Curtis , of Suncort at the time of Philippe Auguste, of Suncurt then Soncor at the time of holy Louis
About 1220, Gauthier Ier, lord of Vignory of 1191 to 1229, offer to the monks of the Valley Cabbages the small valley known as of Richier Lady, on the territory of the current commune of Soncourt on Marne. These monks found there the priory of Lagenevroie, or Genevroye, of the name of the many genévriers who cover the slopes of the hills surrounding the small valley.
The church of Saint-Hilaire, built in extreme cases northern of the village seems to be one of the oldest places of Christian worship of the area. It was used by the villagers of Vignory, Soncourt and Vouécourt. Vignory is the first to be separated some at the 10th century, then it will be Soncourt, which devotes its Saint Martin's day church in 1245.
In 1358, the Lorraine abbot, priory of Lagenevroie, reports in his chronicle that the lord of Bulgnéville besieges then takes the castle of Vignory. With this occasion the village of Soncourt is plundered and set fire to, its pursued and held to ransom inhabitants, the priory and the church were also the prey of the flames.
From the 14th century, the seigniory of Vignory passes successively to several houses, with the liking of alliances and the heritages, and it is set up in county in 1559 pennies of Lenoncourt.
After the National Assembly decided the sale of the ecclesiastical goods, the priory of Genevroye is sold in 1790 and the monks leave the site. Soncourt on Marne became a commune following the law of December 14th, 1789.
