Synopsis
With beginning of the year 90 in Ireland, Sharon Curley, twenty years, lives with her noisy but plain family in popular quarters. She announces her pregnancy but obstinately refuses to reveal the name of the father. The family puts up itself rather well with the situation until the rumor allots the paternity of the baby to come to a neighbor from ripe age, married and father of a good friend of Sharon. Sharon has great difficulty to contradict and one sees in flashback the " conception" at the time of a festival too sprinkled with the famous neighbor. A few weeks of family tension (each one defending the honor of Sharon with punches) will follow until the family meets around the " moutard" (" snapper" in English).

Analyzes
Far from the sumptuous " dangerous connections " , The Snapper is a refreshing and often laughing comedy, been used by motivated actors for the tone right. The Irish company is crunched through various recurring tables: unmarried mothers, many in Ireland (the weight of the catholic tradition, Sharon refusing the abortion all while not being obviously practicing), evenings with the pub (one on several occasions sees there Sharon drinking and saoûler in spite of her pregnancy), swearwords and blasphemies. The actor Colm Meaney whom one will find in The Van camps a fabulous father: it is forgotten that he is actor and one grows to see a true father facing more or less well with an unforeseen pregnancy. The scenes where it tries to be implied in the pregnancy of his daughter, in search of obstrétiquaux information, going until taking the hundred steps in the waiting room during the childbirth, are among best film.
