The Slits
The Slits (slits) is a group of music female Punk exclusively . Regarded as the little sisters of the Sex Pistols or the Clash, they were surely among the first musicians rock'n'roll to be affirmed with as much energy and personality.
Formed in 1976, the group was formed around members of The Flowers off Lovesong (with Sid Vicious) and of The Castrators, Ari Up (Ariana Foster) (only member original remaining), Palm Olive (Paloma Romera) (which will join The Raincoats), Kate Korus and Suzi Gutsy, these three last were replaced in 1977 by Viv Albertine and Tessa Politt and of the beater Budgie (Pete Clarke, come from Spitfire Boys, and future member of Siouxsie and the Banshees) which was done he to even replace in 1979 by Bruce Smith.
Their music initially turned towards a Punk rock'n'roll amusing and involving, nevertheless rough and raucous into live (Peel Extraordinary session was recorded), known a turning towards the reggae and the dub by losing a little this sound gross .
Dennis Bovell produces their first album Cut (Island Records). This album is the fruit of a mixture between punk spirit and groove reggae, its cover is it also notable, the members of the group pose there in amazones stripped, mud glazes.
