Comments
This cinematographic version of the part of Samson Raphaelson is the first talking film with a total about 281 words. It shows also the bond which will exist between Broadway and Hollywood during several decades, in the kind even of the musical comedy.
The Al Jolson voice was the first with being heard in a feature-length film; it caused a thunder of applaudissements.
At the beginning, Al Jolson was to sing only five songs and entonner some topics religious. For the producers, it was absolutely necessary to avoid the language spoken in the middle of the pieces. Therefore the history is still told there using paperboards and of subtitles.
However, at the time of the song Blue Ski , the actor launched out in a true improvisation not envisaged in the scenario: a dialog with his/her mother (Eugenie Besserer). This intervention on behalf of Al Jolson caused to thaw out the myth of sound film and made it possible the others to launch out in “speaking”.
In short, this Chanteur of Jazz opened simply a door on a new kind which was going to prove reliable during several decades.
The counterpart " , You wait a little do not have anything yet entendu" was classified 71ème among the the 100 counterparts most known of the American cinema.
