the Seyne-sur-Mer (in Occitan Of Provence Sanha de Mar according to the traditional standard or Sagno de Mar according to the Standard mistralienne) is a city of the south of the France, at the edge of the the Mediterranean. It is the second city of the Var and the main thing Faubourg of Toulon. Its inhabitants are called Seynois.
It owed its development mainly with the establishment of naval constructions.

History
Shipyards
The latter have existed for more than two centuries (the activity of the first shipyard seynois is attested in 1711) and knew a strong expansion during first half of the 19th century. It is during this period that the use of the metallurgy in the construction of the boats developed. Thus, at the beginning of the 19th century a potentially polluting industrial activity (use of hydrocarbons and metals) are present in the district of the studied site. In 1848, the building sites have summers increased on several thousands of m ², employ 1300 people and assemble many ships. As from 1855, it is the company " Forging mills and Building sites of Méditerranée" (FCM) which takes again the management of the industrial site. This company then makes strong great strides in the construction of the ships, as well civil as military. A report/ratio of the files of the marine of 1884 indicates the building sites seynois FCM like most important of France, by their surface (14,6 ha) and the length of their quays (nearly 1 km). It indeed has 10 holds of construction whose size makes it possible the FCM to build the largest boats of the time. These larger boats are the transoceanic steamers and cargo liners which ensure the connections between Europe and the rest of the world. At that time, the report/ratio announces us one 2308 men. Other great work begins little before the First World War with the installation from two enormous boxes to obtain in 1927 the largest basin of the world. The FCM thus preserve the management of the site until 1966 at the time of their liquidation.
The building sites then take the name of Naval constructions and industrial of the Mediterranean (CNIM). Like the other French building sites, the CNIM tried to center their activities by exploiting technological niches less exposed to international competition, in particular the construction of methane tankers, barges floating and equipment for the platforms offshore oil rig. At the time of the second world war, a bombardment involves on April 29th, 1944 a destruction partial of the building sites and studied site. August 17th, 1944, of the mines generate then a more important destruction of the building sites. However, they are rebuilt and increased since 1949 to reach 25 hectares and a sea front of 1.400 meters. In 1973, the day before the oil crisis, the building sites of Seyne on Mer employed more than 5.000 people. After the shipwreck of Normed, result of the fusion of France-Dunkirk, Shipyards of Ciotat and CNIM, the establishment of Seyne on Mer succeeds in being reconverted apart from naval construction.
Crisis and reconversion
One can estimate that the studied site knew as from this moment a consequent fall of its activity until 1985 with the construction of the last boat and in 1989 with the permanent closure of the shipyards seynois. The Seyne-sur-Mer, to face the crisis of its industrial activities, was to operate a real reconversion and to diversify its activities in other sectors. Thus, a vast program of town-planning east moving, in particular with the inauguration of the Park Fernand Braudel in 1999 by the former mayor Maurice Paul and with the inauguration of the Park of naval the in 2006 by the current mayor Arthur Paecht (see Events ). The city turns then resolutely to balneal tourism, already started at the 19th century with the installation of Sablettes and Tamaris by Michel Pasha, and cultural tourism thanks to the richness of its historical heritage and with the beauty of the natural framework of Provence (see Natural heritage and Cultural heritage and historical ).
