The Seatbelts

The Seatbelts (also known under the name of SEATBELTS or シートベルツ ) is a group of Blues/Jazz Japanese directed by the compositrice and instrumentalist Yoko Kanno. The name of the group, according to the fictitious description given in the Animates Japanese Cowboy Bebop, drift owing to the fact that the interpreters carry safety belts (`' English seatbelts'') to be in safety when they play of the sessions of jam hardcore.

The group carried out all the band its series of animates Cowboy Bebop and produced in all seven albums and a dvd live. Their style is very diversified and extends from a jazz band to ballades rock'n'roll' roll.

Since the group was focused mainly on the instrumental one, The Seatbelts does not have a principal singer. But Steve Tells (The Contes and Crown Jewels) and May Yamane takes part and sings in many songs. The words of these songs are written by Tim Jensen and Yoko Kanno. The singers Soichiro Otsuka and Gabriela Robin (a pseudonym of Kanno according to the rumor) are responsible for the voices in songs like Blue . After a few years of hibernation, The Seatbelts was reformed in 2004 to compose the band its of the second video game Cowboy Bebop , available to Japan.

Several members of Seatbelts worked with Kanno on other projects and some continued to compose their own song. For example, the guitarist Tsumeo Imahori also plays on the tapes its of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and of Wolf' S Rain (both composed by Kanno) but it also composes for Trigun and Gungrave .
