Comments

the Saint is one of the more long series of adventures produced with the the United Kingdom, with Bowler hat and leather boots .

In the Saint , Roger Moore interprets Simon Templar, the detective of fiction created by Leslie Charteris in the Années 1920 and appearing in many Romance S and Nouvelle S. the interpretation of Simon Templar by Roger Moore is sometimes regarded as a ground of test for its future role of James Bond. One twice proposed to him the role of 007 during the diffusion of the series, role which it had to refuse in reasons of its televisual obligations. In one of the first episodes of the series, one of the characters takes Simon Templar for James Bond besides.

Roger Moore is the only recurring actor of all the series. The series counted some semi-recurring characters, such as the Teal inspector, interpreted by Ivor Dean.

Simon Templar generally leads a Volvo P1800.

The series, belonging resolutely to the mysterious kind at its beginnings, evolved little by little to intrigues of Secret agent or fantastic. The transition Black and white - colors, realized with half of the diffusion, was the subject of a strong publicity. In the first episodes, Roger Moore breaks the Fourth wall while making address Simon Templar directly to the televiewers at the beginning of each episode. With the passage to the color, that was replaced by a simple narration in Voix out-field.

In 1978, the series gave place to an after-effect entitled the Return of the Saint , with Ian Ogilvy in the role of Templar. Roger Moore never again interpreted this role after 1969   ; one can however hear it speak in a car radio in the film the Saint , with Val Kilmer.

Bonds with the novels

Many episodes of the series are based on the adventures written by Leslie Charteris, but the proportion of original scripts increased evolution of the series progressively.

When Leslie Charteris sold the right of the Saint for televised series, it imposed in the contract three conditions on the futures scénaristes :

  1. the Saint cannot marry nor to found a family,
  2. the Saint cannot have physical handicap,
  3. the Saint cannot catch a venereal disease.

Anecdotes

Episode 18 ( the King ) of the sixth season is regarded by the critics as the préquelle one of Amicalement yours . In this episode, one sees Simon Templar, helped of an adventurer texan, to ruin a swindle Monte Carlo. With this episode, Robert S. Baker wanted to know the reaction of the public vis-a-vis a British/American duet.
