the Saint-Benoit-on-Loire is a common French, located in the department of the Loiret and the area Center.
Geography
The village is located on northern bank of the the Loire, between the Châteauneuf-on-Loire and Gien.
Administration
The Saint-Benoit-on-Loire, like all the communes of the Canton of the Ouzouer-on-Loire, was attached to old the Arrondissement of Gien, removed in 1926 during the recutting of the districts and ever reconstituted.History

the Saint-Benoit-on-Loire is famous for its Romance abbey bénédictine, built starting from 1067 and preserving a monastic activity until our days. The crypt of the abbey church contains the tomb of Philippe Ier (1052-1108), king de France (1060-1108).
Famous characters
- the Poète max Jacob lived there of 1921 with 1928. It returned there in 1936 and is stopped there in February 1944 before being off-set with the camp of Drancy where it dies a few days later.
- Of many artists, friends of this last, passed in the village. One can quote Pablo Picasso, Jean Cocteau, Paul Éluard, Rene Iché, Pierre Mac Orlan, Charles Trenet…
Fall from max Jacob
The body of the poet was transferred in accordance with his will from Drancy to the Saint-Benoit-on-Loire in 1949. In 1950, the sculptor Rene Iché accepted that one uses the portrait of max Jacob which it had carried out in 1935 to decorate fall it from his friend.
